Apple crumble

Recipe Ingredients
900g cooking apples, such as Bramley's;
175g granulated sugar;
finely grated zest of 1 lemon;
6 tbsp water;

175g plain flour;
90g butter;
60g demerara sugar.
 
Recipe Method
Peel, core and quarter the apples. Slice thinly and toss in the sugar, lemon zest and water. Put in a shallow ovenproof dish (20cm).

Make the topping by rubbing the butter into the flour until resembles breadcrumbs, stir in the sugar.

Sprinkle the topping over the apple mixture and bake in the oven (180c/gas4) for about 45 minutes until golden brown and bubbling.
